Bookworms, take note! This year, World Book Day falls on the 5th of March. On this special day, children go to school dressed as their favourite literary characters. While some costumes are fantastic, others are, well… Here’s our list of the funniest costume fails from Book Days past! Better luck next year…

Ready for some epic #fails? Here we go…
1. Well, catalogues do have all the components of a book: pages, words, pictures…

Forgot they had to be in costume, so they're going to school as pages 89 & 165 of the Argos catalogue pic.twitter.com/5JHnHlRbte
2. A bold move, indeed.
Who can forget this from #WorldBookDay 2015 – an 11 year old sent home for dressing up as Christian Grey 😳 #fail pic.twitter.com/yEfqgmLsNb

3. Too busy zooming around the track to read the memo.
#WorldBookDay #fail He’s wearing the only dress up outfit we have. Nothing to do with his favourite book 😆😆😆 Try as I might to have found one of his books with a raving driver in it…. #drseuss all the way. Tho we did read a page & a half of The Go-Between yesterday 🧐 pic.twitter.com/Tv5qUqVdJT

4. Hmm… Spiderman is originally from a comic book though, right?
When you explain to your child that #worldbookday is about reading, not costumes, and they choose to dress as Spiderman #fail pic.twitter.com/3mgTYiWYoc

5. Film? Literature? Who can tell anymore?!
Predominantly seeing people's children in my newsfeed dressed as characters from films not books for #WorldBookDay #Fail pic.twitter.com/o2sJCPveB1

6. Okay, so this one’s not a fail-fail, but it is terrifying…
7. Maybe next year, let’s go with Harry Potter instead of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Imagine seeing this on the school run…
World Book Day! It’s also funny because it looked like no one else went all out, just the occasional princess pic.twitter.com/ezIsIv1t80

9. Pardon me, ma’am, but we don’t allow pets inside the shop…
Today for #WorldBookDay the staff in our school (about 50 of us) all dressed as Dalmatians whilst the head and deputy were Cruella and one of her henchmen. I loved it as did kids. After school I de-costumed before going to Aldi but I forgot to remove my tail. #fail

10. Hang on, is this World Book Day or is it Parents’ Evening?
My kids were told to dress for school as a character from a book. James had an idea! #WorldBookDay pic.twitter.com/53Fjn5Ihyy

11. Every parent’s worst enemy: calendar mistakes.
Mum fail = tweeting about World Book Day on what is, in fact, World Book Day Eve & giving all the other mums a panic about little Timmy not being dressed as The Cat in The Hat pic.twitter.com/ZqhmsnGuUY
