Half term is just around the corner and will be here before we know it. With the school holidays approaching fast, it is a great idea to plan ahead and organise some ideas to keep the kids entertained.
If you are in search of fun activities to keep kids of all ages occupied, you will find plenty of inspiration here. We have lots of ideas for family days out, but as we all know, the weather in the UK can be changeable, so we also have plenty of fun indoor ideas for you to try too.
Whether you are looking for indoor or outdoor activities or ideas for days out, we have them all here.
Indoor Activities
Get Creative
Getting the kids to put their creativity to the test is an excellent way to keep them occupied on a cold or rainy day. Now is the perfect time for them to try any craft sets that they may have received as gifts and tucked in a cupboard. But, if you are looking for more crafting inspiration, why not encourage the kids to learn a new creative skill, such as sewing? There are plenty of sewing kits available designed specifically for kids. These sets are ideal for helping children learn this essential creative skill.
Build a Fort
Building an indoor fort is a fun activity on its own. But, once built, the fort is the perfect base for kids to play for the rest of their break. You could use a fort-building kit or let the kids create their own by hanging blankets between furniture.
Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are an activity that you can do either indoors or outside. This makes a scavenger hunt a perfect activity, whatever the weather. You can use either a scavenger hunt set or make your own. Simply list some indoor objects and let the kids rush off and be the first to find them. Examples to add to your scavenger hunt list include everyday household objects, such as a pen, remote control, and a spoon.
Outdoor Activities
Have Fun with Bubbles
Everyone loves bubbles! Having fun with bubbles is a perfect way for the kids to burn off some energy in the back garden. Why not make your own bubble mix with water and a small squirt of washing-up liquid? Alternatively, you could buy a bubble set to make giant bubbles for the kids to chase and pop.
Fly a Kite
Make the most of windy days this half term and get the kids outside with a kite. Flying a kite is an ideal opportunity to get plenty of fresh air and is guaranteed fun for the whole family.
Get Sporty
If you are keen to minimise screentime, organising some sports in the garden is a great idea. From playing catch and other ball games to skipping, there are so many ways to have sporty fun in the garden.
Family Days Out
Take a Trip to the Seaside
You don’t need to wait until the summer to head to the beach for a family day out. A day out at the seaside over the half term is the perfect way to blow away the cobwebs. If it’s too cold for ice creams, you can still have fun making sandcastles. Don’t forget to dress for the weather – you might need to wrap up warm and pack your wellies!
Plan a Wild Day Out at an Animal Attraction
Most kids love animals, so planning a day trip to an animal attraction is sure to be a big hit. If the weather is rainy, visiting an aquarium is a great choice. But, on finer days zoos, wildlife parks, and children’s farms are all perfect destinations.
Step Back in Time at a Castle
The UK is home to lots of historic buildings that are ideal destinations for a day out with the kids. Children will love exploring a castle and learning about the kings, queens, and knights that lived there in days gone by. From Warwick Castle in the Midlands to Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, there are lots of castles just waiting to be explored.
